Oval Neck Track Bolt Manufacturer
An oval neck track bolt joins two rail ends through the joint bar, or fish plate, at a rail joint. Its button head has an oval neck forged directly beneath it. The neck sits in the oval hole of the joint bar, so the bolt cannot turn while the nut is tightened, and one spanner does the job.
The same bolt goes by different names in different markets. In the USA and Canada it is a track bolt or BHON bolt (button head oval neck). In India and the UK it is a fish bolt, fishplate bolt or fishbolt, and many buyers call it a mushroom head oval neck bolt. It is also used to splice crane rails.

Questions Buyers Ask
Is a fish bolt the same as a track bolt?
Yes. Both join rail ends through the plates at a rail joint. "Fish bolt" is the Indian and British name, taken from the fish plate. "Track bolt" is the North American name, where the plate is called a joint bar or splice bar. The button head and oval neck are the same idea.
Why an oval neck and not a square neck?
The oval neck stops the bolt turning, exactly like the square neck of a carriage bolt, but the matching hole in the plate is oval rather than square. An oval hole is easier to punch or machine and has no sharp corners where cracks can start.
Do you make inch sizes?
Yes. Rail practice in India came from the British system, so fish bolts here are made in inch sizes with BSW threads. We also make them with UNC threads for North American buyers. Tell us which thread form you need, because a UNC nut will not run on a BSW bolt of the same diameter.
