The heaviest type in the family, and the one that needs fabrication rather than just bending. A base plate is welded square to the bottom of the rod, with triangular stiffener gussets welded between rod and plate so the weld is not carrying load in bending on its own. Where the drawing calls for them we also fit a pipe sleeve, welded at mid-section just below the thread on a small plate, and a tuck nut — a nut one size above the rod, bored oversize and welded low on the shank rather than threaded on.
Used for heavy machinery foundations, crane rails, tower and mast bases, transfer columns, and any base plate where uplift is a designed load rather than an incidental one.
A straight rod threaded at the top with a curved hook (J) or a square 90° leg (L) at the embedded end. The most common foundation bolts in general construction: equipment skids, pumps, light poles, boundary structures, and holding-down duty where the bolt is mainly locating the plate.
We form the bend first and heat treat afterwards, so the bend is never made in hardened material. That is what allows us to supply bent anchors in 8.8 and 10.9, not only in mild steel — see how bent bolts get their properties below.
A forged closed loop at the embedded end instead of a hook, so a bar can be passed through the eye and the anchor tied directly into the reinforcement cage. Used where reinforcement is congested, on retaining structures, and in tie-back and guy applications.
Where a drawing calls for something outside the standard range, we make to the drawing. One recent example: anchor bolts with shallow blind pockets, 5 mm deep, drilled along the embedded length so the concrete keys mechanically to the rod instead of relying on the bond to a smooth bar — supplied for a road over bridge foundation.
Bent anchor bolts are formed first and heat treated afterwards, so the bend is never made in hardened material. This matters: bending a bar that has already been hardened risks cracking at the outer fibre of the radius, which is why several standards restrict bent anchors to lower strength grades. ASTM F1554, for instance, permits bent rods in Grade 36 and Grade 55 but not in Grade 105.
Heat treatment is carried out at our heat treatment partner in a 2 metre deep pit-type gas-fired furnace, with the bolts hung vertically through the cycle. Bolts are through hardened — quenched and tempered so properties develop across the full section — not case hardened. Vertical loading is what allows a long bolt to come out of the quench straight, because a horizontally supported bar cools unevenly along its length and distorts.
Every lot is tested by the heat treatment facility. S R Forgings then draws two further pieces at random from the same lot and sends them to a NABL-accredited laboratory for independent verification. Results have matched in every lot to date. NABL accreditation is internationally recognised through mutual recognition arrangements, so those test reports are accepted in export markets without re-testing.

Most foundation bolt enquiries take two or three rounds of questions before they can be priced. These details settle it in one:
On pipe sleeves, customers normally call up the pipe by nominal bore and class; we buy and cut it by outside diameter and wall thickness, so give both where you can. And note that foundation bolts are billed on the nominal diameter over the full length of the bar — material removed in cutting the thread is not deducted. That is standard practice across the industry and worth knowing before comparing two quotes.
