DTI Washer Manufacturer (Direct Tension Indicator)
A direct tension indicator, or DTI washer, is a load-indicating washer with a series of raised protrusions on one face. As the bolt is tightened the protrusions compress, and when the remaining gap reaches a specified dimension — checked with a feeler gauge — the bolt has reached its required minimum tension. This gives a direct, visible confirmation of bolt tension instead of relying on applied torque.
Correct tension is critical in HSFG bolted connections. Too little and the joint can slip or work loose; too much and threads can strip or the bolt can fail. A DTI washer lets an inspector verify every bolt in a connection quickly, on site, without specialist tooling — which is why they are specified on structural steelwork, bridges, transmission towers and other load-critical assemblies.
DTI washers are manufactured from hardened and tempered carbon steel. S.R. Forgings produces direct tension indicator washers to EN 14399-9, the standard required for Indian Railways (RDSO) supply.
